Apophis, blizzard corn snake by DancingMadKefka Apophis, blizzard corn snake by DancingMadKefka
This is soon to be my newest brother - Apophis, a blizzard (i.e. completely white) corn snake.

Right now he lives at the Nature Center at Jones Beach; as soon as I have enough money for a tank to house the five foot long beauty, he'll be coming home with me.

One of the fellows who works at the NC is friends with a guy who works in pest removal. Apparently, this guy got a call one day from someone panicking over a snake in their shed - when he went to take care of the problem critter, he found a five foot long white snake. Chris, the guy from the Nature Center, specializes in herpatology (reptiles and lizards), so he ended up taking the snake into the NC.

They don't have the space for him (he's five feet long, and needs a tank at least that big), so they offered him to me - there was no way I could say no, as I've been thinking about getting another snake for awhile now, and I LOVE albinos (I have one snake already, an albino king snake - pink with yellow bands and red eyes- , named Xero.).

Apophis's only real problem is that he's almost completely blind - his eyes are a gorgeous blue color, but littered with cataracts. That doesn't stop him, however; he's very active, very curious, and has a voracious appetite. For rats. (No worries, I only feed my snakes pre-killed critters. I like rodents too much.)

That dark spot on his nose is a scab - since he can't see well, the old mesh top on his tank kept confusing him and he'd try to bust his way out, leaving a nasty cut in his nose... thankfully the scab is ready to come off and there's some nicely healed skin under it.

"Apophis", or "Apep", was the snake demon in Egyptian mythology, who continaully attempted to foil Ra's daily Sun-bearing journey down the Nile. He was also a thorn in the side of the members of SG-1 (for you Stargate fans), which is actually where I got the name from ;)

Oh, god. He's gorgeous!

That's a very beautiful snake.  But I'm pretty sure that's not a corn snake.  You can tell by his size, head shape, and eye color.  A Blizzard corn would have red eyes.  It'd say that's either a rat snake or king snake.   Still, that is one gorgeous snake and I would love to have it.

Omg it looks so beautiful XD I just got a king snake as a birthday present and he's a tiny compared to that corn. but very pretty with black and red bands. Currently its shedding and turning a bluish grey color. Omg that is a beauty XD

well snakes don't really need to see because of it's other senses but he is a beauty. I used to have an albino ball python which was white and Yellow found a lot of fresh mice around the area of my house and when he got out he was easy to find and I always think that when any snake has a rodent in it's mouth with only the tail sticking out of it's mouth that it looks like a gangster.
why only dead prey?
Wow, he's a big boy! Beautiful blizzard.

Is he still confused about the mesh, or has he figured it out yet? I don't want that poor little guy messin up his pretty face anymore. He needs his modeling career!

This corn seem to be...not a corn. The snout and the ventral scale indicate me that this snake is an Leucistic texas ratsnake (Elaphe obsoleta lindheimeri). This one is absolutly beautiful with is pure white.

Sometimes curse words are the only way to describe something.

F*ck thats a beautiful snake. I have never seen a corn so thick.

Do you Think he could be a Rat snake? That's where corns came from if I recall right.

That is a helluva gorgeous reptile you have there. Almost poetic; a blind white snake.
I love 'em when they're all one colour.

Holy cow, look how THICK he is! I mean, I have a corn and she's about five feet but she's not that thick. The head on this guy is just huge! Any idea how old he is? My girl is only 3 years, so she has a lot more growing to do.

Man, he is so pretty <3 And the white just tops the cake. Especially on his underside... he shines like a pearl.

A real beauty, and it's nice to finally see a picture of about how big corns can get. I have a corn of my own, about 3 feet long, and I've never seen a picture showing their full size, I doubt that even this is the actual FULL size. Thank you for proving to me that he's gonna get bigger. I've also had to raise a completley blind Western Hognose Snake in school. He was an absolute sweet heart though, would never strike at anything, except for the mice we hung over him, and extremley active whenever we picked him up. Lol, you wouldn't think that it could figure out what is human and what is mice, that just goes to show you how amazing snakes really are, along with all the other animals in the world. Well, I've probably already talked way too long, have fun with Apophis! (P. S.- I love SG-1!!!).
phantomphanatic2910 Featured By Owner Jul 12, 2007
That is a very beautiful snake. It seems simple, being only white, but in fact it makes it even more rare and gorgeous a pure white. I have a butter corn snake (The albino version of the caramel corn) and she has a lot of white on her, with pale yellow blotches. Do you think this was a previously owned snake that had escaped or perhaps the offspring of an escaped captive?
mourningXglory Featured By Owner Jul 10, 2007
What a beautiful specimen.....
I'm going to have to wait a while until my '07 gets that big.
Good luck to the both of you!

What a beautiful colour, so sleek and eye-catching! He looks like a sweetie. The iridencance in his scales is awesome.

Also glad to hear you feed only frozen ratties. I work in a pet store and far too many baby rats become snake food. *sighs*
